I am originally from Minnesota and had a 20-year career in consumer software before coming a teacher. I took my Montessori training in Northern California and taught in Oakland for 10 years. I hold a Montessori teaching certificate and I am a certified ESL teacher. I have been with SSMCS since 2014 at both the Kindergarten and Lower Elementary level. I greatly look forward to working with the children, and meeting all of our families this new school year.

I have been with SSMCS family for 9 school years now. I started teaching as a Lower Elementary teacher. However, his is my second year in Upper Elementary as the lead for the Mojave Rattlesnakes classroom. Through our sports program and all my activity around the school, I have built great relationships with several families and will continue to do so. As an Upper Elementary Team, we have some exciting field trips, activities, projects, and books planned out for the school year. For those that do not know me. I love sports, coaching is a passion of mine. I feel that I bring those great coaching aspects to the classroom and instill in our students that they are a team, a family. Hopefully, I can have the opportunity to coach your child in or out of the classroom. Teaching is fun for me, it comes with challenges but it is fun to overcome them as a team, a family.
After working as a babysitter all throughout high school, I ventured into college having no idea what I wanted to pursue as a career. I worked as a full-time nanny and tutor while attending classes, and this is where I fell in love with children. I was introduced to the Montessori Way while working as a live-in nanny in Christchurch, New Zealand after graduating with my bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Indiana University. After this unique experience, I was more than intent on choosing a career focused on helping children grow, learn and prosper as citizens of Planet Earth. I am so thrilled to be a new member of Silver Sands! I hope to enjoy hiking, backpacking, camping and running my first full marathon in my first year out West. Please feel free to ask me any questions or come forward with any concerns you may have. I can’t wait to meet all the children and families of our Silver Sands community.
Fun fact: I survived falling off a mountain in New Zealand
Favorite Spot in Las Vegas: Still looking for suggestions!
I am a Las Vegas transplant from Georgia! I am excited to be here in the Vegas area and even more excited to be a part of Silver Sands. I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember and ten years ago that life-long dream came true. I began my teaching career in 2007 after graduating from the University of West Georgia. I began my career by teaching fifth grade but it wasn't until four years later that I found my true passion...Kindergarten! I taught kindergarten in Georgia for the past six years and knew once we moved here that I would be looking for a position to continue teaching that grade level. I teach for the "light bulb moments", meaning I truly teach to see a child "get it". I not only love to teach, but love to keep learning. I have taken courses to add a gifted and mathematics endorsement to my certificate. I will seek out professional articles and or books to read when I feel the need to learn something new about my chosen passion. Outside of teaching, I enjoy sewing, embroidery, and other crafts. I also enjoy running...although I am quite slow I do enjoy participating in races ranging from a 5K distance to a half marathon. I am married an awesome guy, named Mark and have two children; Cameron and Reagan.

I began teaching at Silver Sands in 2016 and currently teach Middle School Social Studies. I was born and raised in Morris, Illinois, a small town outside of Chicago, and moved to Las Vegas in 2007 to attend college at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in secondary social studies education, and will be graduating in December, 2018. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling to historic places, reading, theater, and playing with my two cats, Winston and Harrison. I am grateful to be a part of the foundation for the theater program at SSCMS, and looking forward to its future.

I am proud to be the lead teacher of the Desert Tortoise classroom ~kindergarten is such a fun and exploration filled time in a scholar’s life. I have been teaching for many years and have been at SSMCS since the 2016-2017 school year. I have received my certificate in Early Childhood Training for Montessori education, as well as being recognized as highly qualified by the Nevada Department of Education. I continually strive to feed my thirst for knowledge through participation in a variety of professional development opportunities. My husband and I have a remarkable nine year old who will be entering 4th grade. In addition, we also have a superb one year-old who enjoys singing and dancing. Our lives revolve around our boys and all the fun they bring to our home. We spend time together swimming, traveling, and playing in the park near our home. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to share my love of learning with the scholars and families at SSMCS.
This is my sixth-year teaching at SSMCS. I received my BS in Elementary Education from Nova Southeastern University, and later returned to obtain my M.Ed in Special Education from UNLV. Middle School Math
I am beyond exicted to begin my journey at Silver Sands as a new Nevada transplant and the new middle school math guide. I began my educational career at the University of Southern California majoring in Aerospace Engineering, and after realizing that I enjoyed teaching and working with my peers more than the intricacies of differential equations, I switched my major to History with an emphasis in Education. I was recruited by a local Montessori launch its middle school program, and traveled to Ohio to receive my training with the North American Montessori Teaching Association. After an intensive training of developing a two-year curriculum and being the youngest in my group of 75 educators from around the world, I received my adolescent studies certification and began teaching sixth through eighth grade English, history, mathematics, and science. My student-centered approach combined with modeling and the Socratic Method have been successful for the past eight years I have been in the classroom.
After a three-year absence, I am thrilled to be returning to Silver Sands as one of the lower el teachers. I was initially introduced to Montessori through my son, who attended Montessori School pre-k to third grade and was one of the “opening day” students here at Silver Sands. I am a certified Montessori teacher (ages 3-6) and I also have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Arizona State University (go Sun Devils!). I’ve lived in Henderson for 25 years with my husband, Jerry. My only child, Louis, recently graduated from Foothill High School. He is headed to the University of Nevada, Reno to study Neuroscience and pursue his long-time goal of becoming an ER doctor. In my spare time, which will increase in the NEAR future, I LOVE watching the first-place St. Louis Cardinals (as of this writing ). I also enjoy keeping up with all my favorite reality shows. I clearly need to pick up a new hobby now that I will soon be childless. Any suggestions? #emptynestcomingsoon
