Frequently Asked Questions
(During COVID-19)
When will school reopen?
Governor Sisolak declared on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 that all Nevada school buildings would remain closed and continue distance education for the remainder of this school year. No additional guidance has been provided for the upcoming school year.
When can I pick up my student's personal belongings?
SSMCS is working on a plan for families to pickup any student’s personal belongings. As soon as we have a plan in place we will contact families with additional information.
Are student assignments being graded during distance learning?
Yes. Students are being graded on their participation and the process of learning. Each student's grade is being individualized according to their needs and accessibility of internet access and devices. Please contact your child's teacher and they will provide resources and alternate assignments if needed to meet your specific needs, It is very important that your child makes every effort to participate in their learning and show how they are achieving their individual goals.
Will my student be held back next year if they can't complete all the class assignments?
Final grades will reflect missing assignments, however, unless you and your teacher talked about retention before distance learning, students will not be held back. Kinder through 5th grade will be receiving their 1-4 rubric assessment for their completed, individualized assignments.
Middle school students are expected to make every effort to participate in their assignments. All assignments are being graded individually according to each child's needs and level of participation. Assignments turned in late will not be penalized. With that said, making little or no effort to complete assignments, students can and will receive a failing mark in that subject area for the quarter. If families are having difficulty getting the assignments completed it is important that you communicate directly with the teachers to request assistance or time accommodations in order to avoid failing any of their classes.
